Super Bowl LIX was a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, with the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The game was the eighth Super Bowl hosted at the Superdome and the 11th overall played in New Orleans.  Quarterback Jalen Hurts was named the Super Bowl MVP. He is the first Eagles quarterback to win the award, and the first player to win it in his first Super Bowl appearance since Kurt Warner in Super Bowl XXXIV. This marked the first Super Bowl championship and MVP title for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and ended the Chiefs' run for a third consecutive Super Bowl win.

  • Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was efficient completing 17 of his 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns and adding 72 rushing yards and a TD. On throws of 10 or more yards, he was 5-of-7 for 137 yards and a touchdown.

  • Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, despite throwing for three touchdowns, finished 21-of-32 for 257 yards and two interceptions, including a pick-six.

  • Key Eagles offensive contributors:  RB Saquon Barkley rushed 25 times for 57 yards. WR DeVonta Smith had 4 receptions for 69 yards and 1 TD, while WR A.J. Brown added 3 receptions for 43 yards and 1 TD.

  • Key Eagles defensive contributors: DT Milton Williams had 3 tackles and 2 sacks, DE Josh Sweat contributed 2 tackles and 2.5 sacks, LB Zack Baun recorded 3 tackles and 1 INT, and DB Cooper DeJean had 3 tackles and 1 INT which was a pick-six on his 22nd birthday, making him the first player in NFL history to score a touchdown on his birthday in a Super Bowl.

  • Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a relatively quiet game with only 4 catches on 6 targets for 39 yards and no touchdowns. Kelce did surpass Jerry Rice as the all-time reception leader in NFL Super Bowl history.

  • The Eagles outrushed the Chiefs 135 yards to 49 yards.

  • The Eagles lead time of possession 36:58 to 23:02.

  • Penalties: Eagles 8 times for 65 yards. Chiefs 8 times for 60 yards.

  • The Eagles' pass rush dominated, sacking Mahomes six times — the most he has ever taken in a single game in his NFL career.

This game was also notable for being a rare instance where Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes lost to a team coached by Vic Fangio. Entering the game, Reid and Mahomes were a perfect 8-0 against Fangio-coached defenses. However, the Eagles' strong defensive performance proved to be the difference, Mahomes faced pressure forcing two interceptions, which were crucial turning points in the game. Conversely, the Eagles' offensive line provided excellent protection for Hurts, allowing him to operate efficiently and make key plays. The Eagles' win was their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history, and their first since Super Bowl LII. The Chiefs' loss was their first in the Super Bowl since Super Bowl LV.
