The Los Angeles Lakers came into Tuesday night’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers riding a six-game win streak. They left with a bruised ego, an injured superstar, and more questions than answers after a 118-104 loss.
With Joel Embiid and Paul George sidelined, Tyrese Maxey put on a one-man show for Philly, lighting up the Lakers for 43 points and reminding everyone why he’s the future of the franchise. Meanwhile, the Lakers' night went south early when Anthony Davis exited in the first quarter with an abdominal strain. Given Davis’ history of injuries, Lakers fans might be holding their breath longer than AD stays healthy in a given season.
LeBron James did what he could, stuffing the stat sheet with 22 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds, but the rest of the Lakers never really found their rhythm. And then there was Bronny James—who, let’s just say, had a night he’d rather forget.
The rookie guard played nine minutes and managed to go 0-for-4 from the field, including two missed threes and a couple of turnovers. At one point, he attempted a three-pointer that hit the backboard so hard it might still be vibrating. He did, however, record an assist on a dunk by Jaxson Hayes, proving that at least someone benefited from his time on the floor.
This performance comes just days after Bronny dropped a career-high 31 points with the South Bay Lakers, which led some overly optimistic fans to wonder if he was ready for a bigger role. Tuesday’s game was a reminder that the jump from the G League to the NBA is about as easy as guarding Maxey on a hot streak.
The loss drops the Lakers to 26-19, snapping their six-game win streak, while the 76ers improved to 18-27. With Davis’ health once again in question and the Lakers still figuring out their rotations, the road ahead could get bumpy.
As for Bronny, growing pains are part of the process—but on a team with LeBron and championship aspirations, the margin for error is razor-thin. Lakers fans will have to hope his next viral moment is for the right reasons.
